London Philharmonic Orchestra GCSE composition project...

Woolwich Poly were chosen as one of four schools London-wide to take part in an exciting music project run by the London Philharmonic. We are the only school in Greenwich to have had this opportunity this year!

Twenty of the Year 9 and Year 10 Woolwich Poly GCSE Music students performed their unique piece onstage at the Royal Festival Hall on Friday night. It was a superb performance of a challenging piece and was the culmination of 6 weeks hard work. The students had been working with an orchestral composer and 4 members of the orchestra to create a unique piece based on a work by the Russian composer, Shostakovich. It was a real experience for the boys to perform in a world class venue and they rose to the occasion as they always do.

All in all, a superb project!

Student Council win £300 for their new bike loan scheme!...

Please let us introduce the
2014 Youth Travel Ambassador Award Winners.
The following boys went to Woolwich Town Hall to present their pitch to a panel of 5 prestigious judges which included Cllr Jim Gillman.
We beat teams from Tallis, UTC (6th form team), Plumstead (who had 2 6th form teams!) and  Corelli College. The boys did fantastically well with half of the boys dressed as clowns and we even had someone on a unicycle.
The boys won £300 that will go towards setting up a bike loan scheme which we will be rolling out in the next term.
Well done boys!

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all who visit our website!

Woolwich Polytechnic is a school that prides itself on demanding the highest standards from students and staff alike. We have a pastoral care system that is second to none that supports a ‘no excuses’ culture for behaviour and achievement.
Described by Ofsted (Oct 2011) as “Outstanding”, in 2013 the school once again achieved superb GCSE results: 70% of students achieving 5 A*-C grades (including English and Mathematics) and 99% 5 A*- C. In addition we saw 37% of students awarded the English Baccalaureate, an 11 percentage point increase on last year.
We are proud that Woolwich Poly has been invited to join the London Schools’ Gold Club. This is the Mayor of London’s new scheme that identifies those schools across all London boroughs that have shown exceptional practice and have, therefore, been chosen to share experiences with other schools.
Our flourishing co-educational 6th form offers a wide range of courses at AS and A2 level, as well as vocational courses allowing students to reach their potential and study at the very best universities.
The school’s motto of ‘Learning Empowers’ really sums up the opportunities that an education at Woolwich Polytechnic provides, both for the present and the future of each and every student.
